Hindi to English

Translate Hindi video to English subtitles

Yes. Upload your Hindi video, choose English, and watch a preview of up to 20 seconds with English subtitles before you pay. You do not need to select Hindi: the spoken language is detected. Buy the full video for $3 or subscribe. The original audio stays, and you get the MP4 plus SRT and TXT files in both languages.

Upload a video in Hindi (हिन्दी), choose English, and download it with English subtitles burned in. The Hindi speech is detected, so you do not select it.

What you get back

  • Your video as an MP4 with English subtitles burned into the picture.
  • An English SRT file for players and platforms that take subtitle files.
  • An SRT of the Hindi speech, so you have both sides of the translation.
  • Plain TXT transcripts of both, for notes, articles, or search.

How a Hindi video gets English subtitles

  1. Add your video

Upload an MP4, MOV, AVI, or MKV file, or paste a link from a supported source.

  2. Choose English

You do not select Hindi as the source. The speech is detected and transcribed in the language it was spoken, then translated into English.

  3. Download the result

You get the video with English subtitles burned in. Purchases include SRT and TXT files in Hindi and English.

What the speech recognition has to deal with in Hindi

Hindi on video is very often mixed with English, from single words to whole sentences, and speakers switch inside one line. Many words come from Urdu, Sanskrit or English, and the same sentence can be heard as Hindi or Urdu. The speech recognition writes what it hears, and the English translation is made from that transcript.

  • Hinglish is normal. English words inside Hindi speech should stay as they are in the English subtitles. Check that they were not translated back into other words.
  • Indian numbers group by lakh (100,000) and crore (10 million). Check that amounts became the right English numbers, or that lakh and crore are kept where your audience expects them.
  • Hindi and Urdu share most spoken words, so the transcript may be written in Devanagari or in Urdu script. The English translation is made from whichever one the transcript uses.
  • Names of people, places and brands are often English already. Check their spelling.

What to check in the English result

Check amounts in lakh and crore first, then names and mixed English terms.
