What is different about Hindi subtitles
Hindi tracks English closely in length, but the script needs more vertical room per line.
- Devanagari joins consonants into conjunct clusters drawn as a single shape. Burning in after the text is shaped keeps those clusters whole.
- A headstroke runs along the top of the line and vowel signs hang above and below it, so Hindi lines need more height than Latin lines at the same size.
- Everyday spoken Hindi mixes in a lot of English. A good translation keeps the loanwords people actually say rather than forcing a formal equivalent nobody uses.
