What is different about Greek subtitles
Greek words are generally longer than their English counterparts, so lines split a little more often.
- Greek uses its own alphabet, so a subtitle font has to cover it outright. There is no Latin fallback that reads correctly.
- Sigma has two lowercase forms: σ inside a word and ς at the end. Getting that wrong is the clearest sign of a badly made Greek subtitle.
- Stress accents are required on multi-syllable words and distinguish otherwise identical words from each other.
Formality in Greek
εσύ is informal and εσείς is formal. Published video usually takes the formal form.
