What is different about Dutch subtitles
Dutch runs a little longer than English and builds long compound nouns, so lines split more often.
- Dutch writes compounds as a single word, and long ones do not break cleanly across a subtitle line.
- The digraph ij behaves as one letter and capitalises as a pair at the start of a sentence, so it is IJsland rather than Ijsland.
- Dutch and Flemish differ in vocabulary and preferred phrasing. Translation aims at standard Dutch, which reads correctly on both sides of the border.

Will Latin characters render correctly in the video?
